Volunteer
We are so thankful you are considering volunteering at Neighbours Church. We need you, and your gifts to serve as part of this spiritual family. The Bible says that every believer has been given a spiritual gift (1 Corinthians 12:6) to serve the church; which ultimately means that if any of us doesn’t use our gifts, we are all missing out as a community on what God has given each of us to offer one another. God, Himself believes your gifts are needed at our church.
The stewardship of our time, talents, and spiritual gifts as followers of Jesus is critical to what it means to be a disciple. A follower of Jesus who lives their lives in response to the love shown to us by Jesus at the cross. As you mature in your discipleship journey, taking a spiritual gifts inventory, reading books on the topic, and/or attending a class on spiritual gifts will help you to really find the best place to serve in the body of Christ. But to get started, there are a few things you can consider. One, what are some of the family chores at church, that just need to get done, that you can help get done for the family? Second, what are some of the roles on the list below that you would be passionate about serving in? Third, what kind of time commitment can you realistically give to the church or a community role? Contact one of our team members to learn more about volunteering in the local church, our community with our partners, or internationally.
Kids Ministry
We are looking for people who love babies, toddles, or kids and are willing to help our staff team on Sunday mornings to see our vision for kids flourish.
We hope you:
- are willing to create an environment where kids will want to participate in kids ministry through your enthusiasm and participation
- are willing to work with one of our three age groups: nursey, toddlers, or kids on a bi-weekly or monthly basis as a volunteer
- are happy to help put parents at ease, so they can attend the service and learn more about Jesus
We require all of our kids' workers to:
- fill out an application with references that will be called
- have a recent police check done
- be trained in our plan to protect program for those working with at risk individuals
Youth Ministry Mentors
We are looking for people who love teenagers and are willing to host them as adult sponsors, and encourage the teens to lead the group themselves.
We hope you:
- are willing to create an environment where teenagers will want to participate in youth ministry through your enthusiasm and support
- are happy to facilitate the teenagers leading their own ministry, so they can grow in leadership and use their spiritual gifts in their own generation
We require all of our kids' workers to:
- fill out an application with references that will be called
- have a recent police check done
- be trained in our plan to protect program for those working with at risk individuals
Hospitality Team
We are looking for people who want to make Neighbours church a welcome place for everyone who comes through the door. We are hoping you can help us create an environment where a warm first impression is made. We want to help people coming in to feel that we are glad they are with us, and to help them take a first step in connecting to people at Neighbours Church.
Greeters
We are looking for people who are fun and enthusiastic about fulfilling our goal to make others feel welcome. Ultimately, the goal is to help people connect to others on Sundays at our larger celebration services (kids and adults), and get them to want to come back.
We hope you:
- are willing to greet people at the door with a smile
- learn people’s names and something about them to introduce them to others
- play host to newcomers, getting them a coffee, showing them where to go, and talking to them about what they should expect
- give newcomers a card to fill out as a visitor, and give them our newcomers’ gift pack
- call the newcomer within 48 hours of Sunday and invite them back to another service
Coffee
We are looking for people who want to work behind the scenes and provide a welcome space for others. Ultimately, the goal is to help people feel a warm welcome by providing coffee and tea before services for people to connect with others and enjoy the service.
We hope you:
- are willing to come 1 hour early on Sundays to set out the coffee and tea table, and prepare things for all of our guests
- you can purchase supplies ahead of time and be reimbursed for the weeks you are on
Monthly Meal Hosts
We are looking for people who love to host others in their home, and are willing to have some people back for a light lunch? The goal is helping people get to know one another at the church and begin to create community.
We hope you:
- are willing to open up your home to host 10-20 people for soup and rolls on a Sunday after church
- get the materials and have a crock pot heating at home for people to come directly back and enjoy some fellowship together
- would leave a basket out asking people to help cover the cost of the soup at your home; anything you are out beyond that the church will be willing to reimburse for soup and rolls
Worship Team
We are looking for people who love to worship Jesus, sing or play an instrument. If you have musical gifts to offer in leading the congregation in song worship, we would love for you to consider joining the worship team.
We hope you:
- own your own instrument and can play with reasonable proficiency
- are willing to show up every week an hour and half early for a run through
- are willing to come to a weekly practice during the week, prepared and practiced for the upcoming worship set
Small Group Host
We hope you:
- are willing to create a comfortable place for people to sit across from one another in a discussion-oriented format
- are willing to have coffee and drinks available for people each week
- are willing to create a schedule for different people to bring snacks
- are willing to be the point person for people letting you know when they are going to be away
Small Group Facilitator
We hope you:
- have a good, basic biblical knowledge, and are a member of Neighbours Church
- are willing to facilitate discussion and not be the only one talking
- will come prepared on a weekly basis and have thought through what is needed for your group whether you are doing the Sunday curriculum or something else your group has decided to do
Finance Ministry
We are looking for people who are willing to take up the offering during the service, and count the offering after service, as well as make the deposit to the bank.
We hope you:
- are willing to pass the plate on Sundays at church
- are willing to encourage regular givers to sign up for direct deposit
- are willing to count the offering and create the records for tax receipting purposes
- are willing to prepare the deposit for the bank
We require all our financial workers to:
- count with someone they are not related to
- sign a confidentiality agreement as to not share what anyone has given on a particular with anyone else
Prayer Ushers
We are looking for people who are willing to pray for others on a Sunday morning during the service.
We hope you:
- are willing to pray for the request’s others bring to you on a Sunday morning
- would be comfortable leading someone through the basics of becoming a Christian, if they are wanting to become a Christian
We require all of our prayer ushers to:
- be a member of the church (add link), so that they pray in alignment with our confession of faith
- sign a confidentiality agreement as to not share what anyone has shared with them in a prayer request on a Sunday morning
Set Up and Tear Down
We are looking for people who are willing to come out before and after service to set up and tear down the facility with us. There are a variety of things we set up each week to make the services run, and create environments people want to come back to and invite a friend to. If you are willing to help us out with some family chores, or have the spiritual gift of helps we’d love for you to be a part of this team.
We hope you:
- ● are willing to show up 2 hours before church and stay an hour after church to set up and tear down the facility with us
Audio / Visual Team
We are looking for people who have the ability to run a sound board and lights or a video camera, or who are eager to learn how to do this. We are also looking for people who have editing skills for the video services being posted to our YouTube channel.
We hope you:
- AUDIO - are willing to show up 2 hours before church and stay a half an hour after service to run through the service beforehand and take down the equipment after if you are part of the audio team.
- VIDEO - are willing to show up 1 hour before service and stay half an hour after service if you are part of the video team.
- EDITING – are willing to edit and post the video within 24 hours of the Sunday service
Board Members
We are looking for people who are mature Christian leaders in the church, who are highly committed to the church, and are willing to serve on the leadership board and offer their gifts. Particularly people with legal, financial, human resources, and board experience are needed. The church board sets the budget, deals with HR and legal issues, and makes vision decisions for the church on a monthly basis.
We hope you:
- are willing to meet on a monthly basis to discuss the leadership decisions of the church
- be prepared in advance for each meeting by reading the material for decision making 1 week in advance, and providing feedback so that properly prepared responses can be prepared to the questions you want to raise.
We require all of our board members to:
- be a member of the church
- sign a confidentiality agreement
- qualify according the constitution of the church
